How you can help our community thrive

There are many meaningful ways to support International District Food Distribution, from offering your time to providing essential resources. Whether you volunteer, donate, or help spread our message, your contribution directly impacts the lives of veterans and others facing food insecurity in Albuquerque. Every form of support helps us serve our community with dignity and consistency.

The profound impact of your generosity

A recent moment reminded us why this work matters. Our partner gave a Gatorade, donated through our pantry, to an unhoused man who was often near Cesar Chavez. It meant he was seen and cared for. When we later learned of his passing, it underscored that food distribution is not abstract. Sometimes, one meal, one drink, or one act of care reaches a person at the very edge of survival. We cannot solve every crisis, but we can refuse to let hunger, poverty, and isolation go unanswered.

Become a volunteer: your time makes a difference

Volunteers are the backbone of our Wednesday food distribution. You can help with practical tasks like unloading supplies, sorting food, packing bags, setting up tables, greeting people, and distributing food. We also appreciate assistance with pet food or special donations, helping elders or disabled community members carry items, and cleaning up. No special experience is required; we only ask for reliability, kindness, patience, flexibility, and respect. Volunteers quickly become family here, working hard and looking out for one another while serving everyone with dignity.

Your donations nourish people and their pets.

Beyond financial contributions, your donations of food, bottled water, sports drinks, hygiene supplies, reusable bags, and pet food are invaluable. Pet food is especially important; it helps veterans and unhoused neighbors keep their animal companions safe and healthy. We are actively seeking sponsors for dog food purchases, with each pallet costing about $300 and providing more than 1,000 pet meals. Every item helps us serve people and their animals with dignity.
